Naeem Khan Fall 2016
Naeem Khan really outdid himself in this collection. It is absolutely stunning. One design after the next, each a masterpiece. It amazes me that these are Ready to Wear since the couture elements can’t be overlooked. The beading and embroidery is lush, intricate and exceptionally creative. The palette is rich and sparkles with luminous beads and sequins. Designs are body skimming or plush and royal. Pattern is EVERYTHING. Necklines are occasionally sensual, deep, off the shoulder. Velvet is palatial as a component in the collection and it’s often replicated by embroidered patterns or in some cases the motifs create a crocheted effect. I love that!
A touching element of the show, as reported by Harper’s Bazaar, is how Naeem partnered with close friend and stylist Mary Alice Stephenson and the Make-a-Wish Foundation and invited 11 year-old Trinity Faith Moran to be the guest of honor for the Fall 2016 show held at New York Fashion Week. Trinity, is battling stage 3 Rhabdomyosarcoma and dreams of becoming a working model. Naeem Khan helped her to make her dream come true. She visited the showroom, tweaked the dress she would be wearing, had her hair and makeup done back stage and ultimately took part in the show and celebration. She walked on her first runway and closed the show. Naeem said, “The Make-A-Wish Foundation is very close to my heart, Mary Alice Stephenson, my friend and stylist, brought Trinity to my attention. I am so honored to have helped make this come true for her and her family. Fashion without purpose is only a dress.” – What a wonderful purpose and amazing collection. This may be the Collection of the Season. ?
