Marchesa Spring 2016
The Marchesa brand has always been the embodiment of femininity. It’s much of what we love about them. The clothes that make us feel soft, feminine and pretty. Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman found their inspiration for this Spring collection in “a botanical menagerie of caged birds.” I’m inclined to want to name it “Wings and Things”.
The designs are light, airy and delicate with lines and patterns that resemble cages and textures that are reminiscent of our avian friends. In many designs they use sheer fabrics or on others, petal soft silks. Many dresses feature ruffles layered in various lengths or petals of tulle that resemble bird feathers and wings. Other creations use 3D Floral appliques to add to the feathery feeling and on a few others, actual feathers are the central feature. (I’m not entirely crazy about those – they remind me of dusters and you know I’m anti animal products but anyway… there’s that.) The floral embroidery creates pretty flora and fauna textures and some designs are as sensual as lingerie, with corset style bodices crafted to resemble peek-a-boo cages. In fact there are a few shoe styles that are “cagey” too and quite adorable.
