Fred Sathal Fall 2014-15 Couture
At a pivotal point in her career path as an artist, Fred Sathal chose to retire from the fashion circuit to concentrate on her other endeavors as an artist and costume designer for theatrical productions. She returned to the world of Haute Couture during Paris Fashion Week this year, with a collection filled with her exceptionally artistic and unique vision. She aptly named this collection, Journey through the Folds of the Soul. The designs demonstrate her distinct couture skills and exceptional creativity. Fred’s creations rely heavily on an abundance of hand embroidery and unique use of thread. At times the designs are reminiscent of something mythological. Threads intertwine in a mesh-like patterns of what resembles a spiders web and glisten with an abundance of colorful and shimmering beads, sequins and fringe. Still, other designs sparkle like an evening sky and Sathal succinctly referenced them as “the constellation of the soul.” Still other designs feature a remarkable tie dye with what appears to be splashes of hand painting. Styles have a bohemian appeal that’s very attractive and equally memorable.
