Dolce & Gabanna Fall Winter 2013-14
Dolce & Gabanna took their inspiration for this collection from the Monreale Cathedral in Sicily. This is literally wearable artwork that is amazing! It is permeated with religious underpinnings, and all the while very Italian and even more sexy. Heavy beading & jewels coalesce into intricate mosaic patterns and form artistic byzantine type imagery on many designs. Look at these dresses up close – can you imagine the weight of one? The details are awe inspiring.
Other dress designs are dripping in intricate lace and then adorned with jewels. Sometimes the lace is see through and sexy, while at other times it is a bit more refined and conservative.
Gold brings opulence to the collection like the gold gilding inside of the cathedral. It is dominant in the palette and seen in the beading and palatial styled gold jewelry that adorns the fashions with large, heavy gold crosses, big chandelier earrings and even floridly jeweled crowns. Gemstones and crystals are embellishments used throughout the entire collection.
There are conservative, “Sunday Best” styled suit dresses incorporated in blacks and grays that reminded me of a perfectly proper lady on her way to church. They are a stark contrast to the suit styled tops paired with onesie styled bloomers or completely peek-a-boo lace designs that show off a lady’s lingerie in a wanton-esque red! I also love the ballet slippers as well as the work-of-art heels that are completely encrusted in jewels and beads. The bird cage styled heel embellished in tiny roses, is off the charts creative even if it doesn’t look to be all that comfortable. In fact the shoes and purses are insane, I love them all – they’re SO creative!
