Juan Carlos Obando – Fall Winter 2013-14 Ready to Wear Collection
In my opinion, Juan Carlos Obando, is a fantastic example of how innate creativity cannot be stifled. Having already established himself and excelled in his career path as a Creative Director of advertising powerhouses like BMW, Coca-Cola, Sony, Nestle & Walt Disney Co.; Juan spent his free time teaching himself everything there was to learn about creating hand made garments. He studied vintage apparel from the inside out, deconstructed designs and learned all that he could about traditional sewing and hand tailoring. In Spring of 2008, he began showing his own line of couture fashions and he has done so ever since. His collections are carried by world renowned retailers such as Barney’s New York and he is now a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), lending his unique voice to the fashion industry.
This Fall Winter collection debuted February 2013, during New York Fashion Week. Juan Carlos described it as “Understated elegance. Like a whisper.” I especially like the feminine and flowing skirts, sheer layered blouses and off the shoulder, peasant styled & ruffly tops. I also like the shimmery, wrap up styled shoes – they remind me of the ribbons on ballet pointe shoes. Additionally, the jewelry cuff looks like a ruffle and I find that a very intriguing accessory.
