The Best of Alexander McQueen 2016

Alexander McQueen had a signature style that in my humble opinion, to date is incomparable. He had an artistic and somewhat macabre vision, and a fancy for cosplay that he joined with expertly crafted couture details and a keen sensibility for the art form of femininity. He created phenomenal, museum destined fashion that will be studied for generations.

His vision was unequaled and he is missed, yet his brand carries on… and in fact it does so in an impressively marketable way. For 2016, this can be credited to the talents of Sarah Burton. Her designer fashions carry studious elements of McQueen’s tastes but in somewhat more practical styles that women will wear and enjoy.  Sarah brings her own imaginative vision and artistic flair to the ensembles that are creative as well as ultra feminine.

For the McQueen Spring 2016 Ready to Wear Collection, styles lean towards the Haute Boheme. High end Boho Fashion. The workmanship is couture like while the designs lean towards the the free spirited bohemian girl with a love for the eclectic. The denim is for denim lovers, boldly embroidered and outrageously stylish and memorable. In fact embroidery is a pronounced element of this collection and makes it seriously resemble Couture. Designs are silhouette focused with an abundance of airy and sheer ruffles. At times the ruffles are hoboish, while other times they’re strategically placed to follow a curvaceous line, or to flatter a focal point, like a shoulder or a neckline. Other times they layered in an abundance of tiny rows reminiscent of petticoats. The designs are often delicate as Lingerie. Lace is used often. On some evening gowns, birds are embroidered and take flight over the lace below like a textured fabric painting. Gowns of mesh remind me of magical fishnets designed to snare mermaids as they glide over a svelte shape that slinks down the runway. Menswear styled suits feature crisp, belly baring jackets with long coat tails and in one instance is layered over a Metallic-Chain Embellished Tunic, and others are jazzed up with body chain jewelry in intriguing ways. Be sure to see the Fall Collection that follows this one!
