Amazing Underwater Photography by Elena Kalis
This is a collection of some amazing photography by Elena Kalis, a conceptual underwater photographer that lives on a small island in The Bahamas. She is quoted as saying; “Underwater is where I spend a lot of time; snorkeling, diving, photographing. It is fascinating how the world changes down below: light, sound, gravity and proportions are different from what we are used to.”
“I often feel like I am in another dimension, just like Alice who found herself in a strange place when she fall into the rabbit hole one warm afternoon. A place where reality subsides and the closeness of water envelopes you, where sounds are distant and light plays tricks with your eyes and perception.”
What I find the the most intriguing about her work is that not only does she have a loving eye for color and a keen sense of light and shadow, she portrays an element of story telling in each and every image. Each image draws you in and makes you study it and wonder what is going on with the individual characters. It isn’t about what they’re wearing or even what they’re doing, it’s more about what it going on around them. I find this element of her work most creative!
The Alice in Wonderland, or more aptly Waterland photos are SO creative. I understand that “Alice” is Elena’s daughter and that it took her close to 2 years to complete this particular chapter of photos. Patience is certainly a virtue when aiming for only the best quality.
Elena also has quite an eye for beautiful landscape photography and portraits of people.
She has an amazing body of work that you can follow on her website, Deviant Art and 500PX
